American Spaces promote critical thinking and thoughtful discussion of issues important to the U.S. relationship with the host country and U.S. global interests. They do this in keeping with the U.S. commitment to a core tenet of democracy: upholding a citizen’s right to free access to information. American Spaces counteract negative perceptions and disinformation about the United States, and they offer opportunities to build bridges of mutual respect and understanding between the host country and the people of the United States. American Spaces should not only be tools of the embassy’s public affairs section but should serve as platforms for the entire mission to use for public engagement in support of the broad range of U.S. relationships, interests, and activities in the host country.
This position will report directly to the Program Manager and Director of American Spaces
Summary Of Position:
The Administrative Assistant is responsible in providing administrative support to the American Space Team while exemplifying the core values of AUIB. In performing all job responsibilities, the Administrative Assistant reports directly to the Program Manager and works in three major areas: Administrative Support, Information Management and Event Coordination.
Responsibilities:
- Create, review, and edit content for social media and radio outreach
- Responsible for overseeing library catalogue system in collaboration with the AUIB librarian
- Supervise and assist students in planning and executing project and events
- Organize information and send requests, updates, and messages to appropriate personnel (such as the Events Management, American Space Director, and IT) and follow up in a timely manner
- Take part in American Space events and support administrative team as necessary
- Interact with Embassy staff, AUIB staff and AUIB students on a regular basis maintaining professional conduct
Candidate requirements:
- Undergraduate university degree preferred
- Knowledge about Iraqi/American student exchange programs
- Previous office experience in a multi-cultural environment
- Fluency in both English and Arabic
- Ability to be flexible in after work hours, working on weekends
- Competency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS Windows
