Key Responsibilities:
- Welding and Fabrication:
- Perform welding and cutting operations on rig equipment, pipelines, and structural components.
- Fabricate and modify metal components for rig repairs and upgrades.
- Use arc welding, MIG, TIG, and oxy-fuel cutting techniques as required.
- Ensure all welds meet industry standards and company specifications.
- Rig Equipment and Structural Maintenance:
- Inspect and repair rig structures, handrails, walkways, derricks, and drilling platforms.
- Maintain and reinforce pressure vessels, mud tanks, and piping systems.
- Assist in the installation of new equipment and modifications to existing systems.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all company and regulatory safety procedures, including hot work permits and fire safety.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow confined space entry procedures.
- Participate in safety meetings, drills, and risk assessments.
- Conduct welding operations in compliance with API, ASME, AWS, and other relevant standards.
- Inspection and Quality Control:
- Conduct visual inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) of welds when required.
- Identify and repair defects such as cracks, porosity, and weld discontinuities.
- Coordination with Rig Crew:
- Work closely with rig mechanics, electricians, and drilling supervisors to coordinate welding tasks , he will be proactive and will be involved in Drilling / WO’s activity as requested by Rig Manager
- Assist in emergency repairs to minimize rig downtime and operational disruptions.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding work progress and potential issues.
- Tool and Equipment Maintenance:
- Maintain and inspect welding tools, machines, and safety equipment.
- Ensure welding consumables and materials are stored properly and replenished as needed.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of fire hazards.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certified Welder qualification (AWS, ASME, or equivalent) – Required.
- Rigging and lifting certification (preferred).
- H2S Safety, First Aid, Firefighting, and Hot Work Permit training (preferred).
- Experience:
- 5+ years of welding experience, preferably in drilling, oilfield, or industrial environments.
- Experience with stick welding (SMAW), MIG, TIG, and oxy-fuel cutting.
- Knowledge of rig structures, drilling equipment weldings.
- Skills:
- Strong technical ability in welding, fabrication, and metalwork.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing rig structures and piping systems.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and fire prevention procedures.
- Communication Skills – English -Mandatory
Work Environment:
- Work is performed on drilling rigs in remote locations, including offshore and onshore sites.
- Exposure to extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, and hazardous materials.
- Frequent use of welding tools, heavy machinery, and protective equipment.
- Rotational shifts and extended work hours required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (20 + kg).
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in physically demanding conditions.
- Capable of standing, bending, and welding for long periods.
