Key Responsibilities:
- Floorman Operations:
- Assist in making and breaking drill pipe connections during tripping operations.
- Handle and guide drill pipes, casing, and other drilling equipment.
- Operate and maintain tongs, slips, and other rig tools safely and efficiently.
- Support the Driller and As.Driller in routine drilling activities.
- Mud System Management:
- Monitor and maintain drilling fluid (mud) systems, ensuring proper circulation and conditioning.
- Operate and maintain mud pumps, shale shakers, degassers, and desanders.
- Report any issues with mud weight, viscosity, or contamination to the Driller and Mud Engineer.
- Equipment Maintenance and Inspection:
- Perform daily inspections Rig Floor structure, hoisting equipment, and mud system components.
- Ensure all derrick equipment, such as blocks, elevators, and safety lines, are in proper working condition.
- Assist the Rig Mechanic and Electrician in maintaining and repairing rig components as needed.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Work in compliance with all company and industry safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate in safety meetings, drills, and emergency response exercises.
- Follow proper fall protection procedures when working at heights.
- Identify and report potential hazards on the Rig Floor and mud system areas.
- Support Drilling and Tripping Operations:
- Assist the Driller and Assistant Driller in coordinating tripping and casing operations.
- Operate tongs, slips, and elevators during pipe handling activities.
- Help maintain proper drilling mud properties to optimize drilling performance.
- Emergency Response:
- Be prepared to respond to emergency situations, including well control incidents, rig shutdowns, or equipment failures.
- Follow rig evacuation and safety protocols as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- H2S Safety, First Aid, and Firefighting certifications (preferred).
- Fall Protection and Working at Heights training (preferred).
- Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in drilling operations, with at least 1 year as a Floorman.
- Strong understanding of drilling fluids, well control procedures, and mud system components.
- Skills:
- Ability to work safely at heights and in physically demanding conditions.
- Knowledge of drilling fluid properties, handling mud chemicals, and maintaining proper mud circulation.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed on drilling rigs in remote locations, often under extreme weather conditions.
- Frequent work at heights, requiring the use of fall protection equipment.
- Exposure to loud noise, chemicals, heavy machinery, and physically demanding tasks.
- Rotational shifts and extended work hours required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb and work at heights in the derrick.
- Capable of lifting and moving heavy equipment (20 + kg).
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and extreme weather conditions.
